Spray Foam Insulation
If you have read other articles on our site, you will know that we intend to present a fair and balanced view of various insulation products. In fact, our opinion is that the three main insulating products (fiberglass, cellulose and foam) will perform well in any climate and provide great energy savings, IF properly installed. We have years of experience with spray foam and have at times contracted work for some of our clients who want spray foam insulation.
The types of spray foam available
Open cell foam (urethane foam) This is the most common spray foam used today. Typical urethane foam applications provide a R-3.6 per inch value (same as fiberglass and cellulose).
Closed cell foam (polyurethane foam) is a more expensive foam installation. In most cases this application is double the cost of the open cell foam. Typical polyurethan foam applications have a R-7 value per inch.
